The route
The drive from Travis AFB to Sacramento (SMF)
It is roughly 50 miles from the base to SMF, and the drive usually takes 55 to 70 minutes. Because the whole trip runs inland, it avoids the bridges and the I-80 crawl into the Bay Area, which makes the arrival time easier to predict than at SFO or Oakland.
From the base we head north to I-80 at Vacaville and east past Dixon to Davis, then up CA-113 and I-5 to the airport. If the causeway is clear, I-80 through West Sacramento onto I-5 works just as well.
