South and west from Galt
Unlike most of our pickup towns, Galt is closer to the Altamont Pass than to the Carquinez Bridge, so the Oakland run usually heads south first — towards Stockton and Tracy — and then west on I-580.
The Altamont is a busy commuter route at rush hour; early-morning and midday drives are much quicker.
The ACE commuter train runs from Stockton towards the Bay on weekdays, but with luggage and an early flight a door-to-door ride is simpler.
